February SAT and ACT Prep: Take Full Practice Tests
With the spring SAT and ACT tests just around the corner, most of our students have filled in their content knowledge gaps and have started taking full practice tests every week.
Taking full SAT or ACT practice tests is important because it helps students emulate the conditions of test day. We recommend that while taking these tests, students find a quiet place where they can truly focus, sit properly (not in their bed or on the floor!) and do their best work.
Both College Board and ACT have released full-length practice tests that you can download and take for free. They also have some books you can buy, but when taking practice tests we recommend that you use their online resources since that’s the format in which you’ll take the actual test. We encourage you to use their proprietary resources for late-game practice rather than practice tests published by test prep companies because these resources are created by the same people who write the actual tests.
Practice Test Resources
You can take full SAT practice tests by downloading the Bluebook app. The link to download Bluebook is below, and once you take each practice test your score will show up on your College Board profile.
Because the ACT is moving online, their full practice tests are currently in a state of flux. We hope that they have a Bluebook equivalent soon! In the meantime, you can access several dozen questions for each ACT section through this page of the ACT website, and if you scroll down to the bottom of the page you’ll find a full online practice test that you can access if you have a myACT account.
As always, don’t forget to make sure you’re registered for the tests far in advance so that you can get a seat at a testing facility that’s convenient for you, especially if you have accommodations. They tend to fill up quickly!
